Should EMS Consider Wearing Bulletproof Vests?
October 26, 2016So you’ve decided to invest in a level 3 bullet proof vest. If you’re ready to put your buying decisions to the test, we here at Body Armor Megastore offer more than the rest. Here are a few things to consider before you protect your chest. It’s better to be well informed than to guess.
Comfort
A plate carrier isn’t supposed to feel like a cashmere sweater, but it also shouldn’t be so uncomfortable that it’s a distraction. It should fit your body snugly, but without feeling like it’s strangling you. There are several options to chose from for your carrier, but the most important factor in comfort is sizing, find the one that fits you best.
Mobility
If a vest is too large, it can impair your movement. If it’s too small, it can make you move slower or not protect you properly. Your vest should allow for optimum movement. You should be able to completely rotate your arms and rotate your torso as you would normally. In a tactical situation, you need to be able to move quickly and access everything within arms reach.
Weight
In the past few decades, plates and carriers have gotten lighter and more effective. One of the biggest improvements over the vests of old is that they’ve gotten quite a bit lighter. Keep in mind that the weight of your equipment has a direct impact on your fatigue. If you plan on wearing your vest for long periods of time, try to go for a lighter weight.
Concealability
Depending on your situation, it can matter a great deal how your carrier fits on your body. In a tactical situation, if your assailant spots your vest it can be virtually useless. Of course, if your body armor plates are poking out of your shirt it can be an awkward look and feel.
Cost
It’s a difficult decision but, depending on your investment, you should be able to survive the impact of a few rounds. The quality of your investment can determine whether or not you are able to retaliate in a tactical situation after you’ve been hit. It can also determine whether you receive a few bruises or a few broken ribs. Choose wisely.
